What I got from my dad & link up

June 14, 2016

Would you believe that the older I get the more I hear people tell me how funny or witty I am?  Lately it has become second nature for me and I attribute this to my dad.

My dad’s side of the family always cracks jokes or puns. My mom’s side, nada. Growing up this made for an interesting observation as my dad (often nostalgic) quoted comedians like it was his second skin and my mom and her family hadn’t a clue, which was amusing and still is to this day. For this I am thankful that I grew up with humor. In fact, at times I can quote “Monty Phythons: Holy Grail” with my brother and dad and we have a good ol’ time, but most people wouldn’t understand. Especially my mom. But that is the fun of it, and for that I thank my dad.

I thank my dad for not only the life he gave me, but for his humor, heart, kindness, love and appreciation of the good times and bad as he realizes all things are a part of God’s plan and he doesn’t hold bitterness but he is forgiving and loving. To my dad, thank you! I love you and Happy Father’s day!

Thank you for yesterdays compliments. I really enjoy being blonde and creating all the summer looks I can, like today’s simple but basic look.  With the nearing of summer heat waves I am relishing in the cooler mornings and found this layering button up to be quite comfortable and laid back with my tank tee and  linen pants (post on styling linen pants coming up tomorrow on Tiffany’s blog). This outfit was perfect for running errands and spending it at a Birthday party for my best friends little girl, but as the day got later the button up came off due to the humidity and I still felt confident and comfortable in this tank and linen. Perfect summer mom wear if you ask me.

What did you get from your father? How do you dress for those cooler mornings in the Summer?

Outfit details: Linen Pants: similar//Tee: JC Penny, similar//Button up: c/o New Chic, similar//Flip Flops: Old Navy, old, similar, $4 pair that are similar//Necklace: similar.

Rachel, what a beautiful tribute to your dad! I think what I got most from my dad was my work ethic. He always told us it doesn’t matter what you do in life, but do it the best you can. If you become a doctor, a lawyer, a teacher, a painter, a janitor, a waitress, or a fashion blogger (!!!), be the best dang doctor, lawyer, teacher, painter, janitor, waitress, or fashion blogger that you can be! He taught me pride of ownership in my work, whatever work I do. I carry that lesson with me into every part of my life!

And you look perfectly lovely and summery in your linen outfit! I love the casual vibe this outfit has and I might have to copy it this week! Thanks for the inspiration.

One thing I got from my dad was his passion for cooking and a fine wine. He is no longer with us, but his memory lives on everytime I prepare a meal that requires a bit more time or something beyond the family dinner. He is often lifted up in a toast during a celebration we have.

Such sweet words to your dad, it is heartwarming. We often forget our dads in comparison to your mothers as they tend to be the centre of our lives but dads deserve just as much attention. Neither of my parents are funny people so I think that is why I am an uptight and very serious girl. But my husband is just like your dad, it is hard for me to understand his humor sometimes due to the cultural difference. But I do enjoy it very much. 😉

Utility vest is a very cool and useful piece. Love how you styled it!

Thank you so much for linking up with us. Don’t forget to come back every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to link up with me again!
