May 30, 2016

Target-tankini-top-kimono-straw-hat-beach

Happy Memorial Day! Hopefully you are indulging in some R&R time, cookouts, swimming, shopping and a day off work (hopefully). We have had our fill of swimming at the lake and are spending today (Monday as you are reading this) at my cousins pool party. There is plenty of swimming to be had which is why you may notice the title of this post, but you have to read on to gather more of what I mean and some sales of course.

Walking, trespassing & link up

October 20, 2015

IMG_3336

IMG_3337

Thank you for the love in yesterdays post about my recent makeover. I am just blessed to have this hair color now and can’t get enough of it.  Now on to today’s post on walking and trespassing. Yes, trespassing to take blog photos and there is more but first I was lucky to have a little walk with the hubby on the road where his parents live (his parents watched the kids for us) and we talked about memories walking on the lane when we decided to take some outfit shots.

IMG_3334 IMG_3338 IMG_3339

We stopped by a fence of one of the neighbors and Chantry had me stand and pose in front of it. Then he told me to go behind the fence for a post to which I said “that’s trespassing and there is barbwire on the back” and he said “let’s open up the gate and let you in, there are no animals near by.” I accepted but told him to hurry up because we were trespassing on someone else’s property and the house of the owners was nearby.

IMG_3341 Then hurrying I exited the gated area and we began to walk when we both heard a creak of a porch door and a big guy (owner of the field, fence) made his presence on the porch of the house and he looked puzzled and a bit annoyed so my husband calls out “my wife is a fashion blogger, so I got some pictures of her.” the guy had my husband repeat and then the guy gave a ‘thumbs up and went back into his house. Whew, we trespassed on his field and we got a thumbs up. Awesome! This wasn’t the first time my husband was asked what we were doing for blog photos.
IMG_3345

So we made our way to a field in front of a barn and took some of these next few photos and while we were also trespassing no one came and stopped us. Living dangerously here you all. You would think we would have learned the first time. Thumbs up to that.

IMG_3348

IMG_3349

It was such a nice cool day to wear this plaid scarf I dug out from my scarf collection, but it was also fun to pose without wearing it as well. I think the top and scarf go perfectly together and the boot cut jeans and boots just add to the country girl/barn lady look. What do you think?

IMG_3350 IMG_3354

Have you trespassed to take photos before? What happened? Did you get caught?

Happy Birthday to Monica! This post celebrates not only her birthday but everyone and thing that she is thankful for. I love how she is thankful of things past and present I would have never thought could shape and mold us to be better but Monica sure touches on the subject here.

Ann posted on how we must view ourselves for who we are and what we love noting that she (and we) can be insecure but need to realize we are what we are and should appreciate that. I love her confidence and thoughts in this post as she always goes in to how much she loves fashion, style and even her shoes and whole look here. Be encouraged here.

The day we got what we wanted

October 12, 2015

IMG_3228

Happy Monday! This week may be one of transition as my hubby started his new job, so there will be new hours for him and a whole lot of other changes for sure…like more income and plans with what to do with that income (pay off our house in a shorter amount of time, wish us luck). But on to today’s post.

IMG_3231

Last week my little family and I made Wednesday a “What do you want day?” To play this we all asked each other the morning of or night before what we wanted to accomplish or do that Wednesday and here were the responses and what got done and how that was accomplished:

Me- do something with my hair, something different (so as you see in this post, first attempt at french braid in forever), take blog photos wearing monochromatic pastel colors and blog.

Hubby- update and get a new iPhone, he ended up with a iPhone 6 something (pardon me as I know nothing about updated Apple products)

Nevaeh- just to go to church (which we did, as a family)

Alexander- Ice cream with chocolate- well he ended up wanting a bag of chips instead but got a little ice cream.

Elizabeth- fries, so we got frozen fries from the store and put these in the oven for lunch with pizza.

Max- eat, so we ate pizza and fries and later that night sandwiches. The boy sure loves eating but he is as skinny and as little as any little thing so we joke and say he must have a tapeworm or something haha!

IMG_3233

IMG_3240

IMG_3236

I rather liked the results of these photos as my hubby has become quite the photographer. I read on A Beautiful Mess blog some tips on Fashion Blogging photography and told the tips to my husband and so he is eager to take what he is learning, for example photos in front of an interesting colorful wall or dual colored walls. Here this blue wall brings out the pastels and whites and creates a more natural bright lighting effect.

IMG_3238

I also like how my french braid and little side pony tail looked together.

There is more though to “What we want day,” there has been some “God provides what we wanted or he wants” day. This means that there were little things I had wanted to happen or wished for and these look like a possibility or are happening. My hubby got a better job (what he prayed for), and I actually wanted something new done with my hair and some monetary opportunities for the blog and both of these are happening real soon which is awesome. God is awesome!

Have you ever had a “What I would like day?” What would you do? Has God provided for you something you asked or wanted recently?

Rusty & Link up

October 6, 2015

IMG_3168

Happy Tuesday! I can’t get enough of the fall colors and everything fall lately. For today’s look I choose to bring some fall colors out with this rusty red colored blouse that I had saved in my closet for months. I was thrilled to bring it back out and find ways to style it as I wanted to style around this color. I found that black and gold tones went well with rusty red so I paired it with my first black leggings of this new fall season, black new tote purse, and gold accessories.

IMG_3167

I thought adding leopard print flats and a soft knitted beige infinity scarf would help complete the look for Fall weather.

IMG_3170

It rained ALL last week, except for some hours on Wednesday so while my hubby and I were out and about getting some errands done with the kids we decided to stop at our church denominations camp ground and let the kiddos play and get some outfit shots.

IMG_3158

These swings were a new addition to the camp ground and were quite popular with our kids. In the middle of the circled swings was a fire pit, which was neat. This camp ground has a lot of history to it as my husband worked here for years, our Nevaeh went to camp here this past Summer and I was a teacher and helper to many of the youth here years past so it was neat to bring the kids by for a bit apart from church and camp duties.

IMG_3157

Do you have a rusty color red item in your wardrobe? How do you wear it?

Come back tomorrow as i show you another Fall color look for the monthly link up “How I Style It”: link up and the theme is Fall colors, so come on by and link up your fall colors.

I’ve got the power + Link up

September 15, 2015

IMG_3066

How amazing is this background…sure ok, maybe not too amazing as it’s just a bunch of power lines, but still it amps and jolts up my outfit and I LOVE that.

IMG_3065

While my family and I were leaving our local hospital (I have a new niece, little Belle, cutest thing) we were driving a bit and my hubby asked me where I wanted photos taken and right away I spotted across the street some power lines and there these shots took place. I am glad for this location. Ironically I am quite ticked at the power company. The power company that owns these lines sends us outrageously expensive power bills and I hate it…so I decided to kick these lines in the butt with an outrageous outfit so HA take that power company. Now I feel a bit better.

IMG_3067 IMG_3068

I recently lost a little weight because this chambray dress from years ago was nice fitting and the perfect dress to pair with a kimono on a cool weathered day like Sunday. I am glad I finally dug it out of my closet to feature it on the blog for you.

IMG_3069

Again HA power company! I’ve got the power!

J. Crew Jeweled Bib Tank  Target Women’s Bow Crossbody Bag  Karen Walker Super Duper Thistle Sunglasses

Molly Suzanne Tassel Bracelet Set  Jord Wooden Watches Cora Series – Zebrawood & Turquoise

Hi! This is Carrie from over at Curly Crafty Mom and today I am guest posting on Garay Treasures for Rachel. Fall is quickly approaching and I have started to think about adding some pieces to my fall wardrobe. It is always fun to reevaluate your closet this time of year and to figure out a few new statement pieces to add.

For this outfit collage, I started with a blardigan in a crisp fall color. Then, I added that gorgeous beaded tank from J. Crew. The beads on it are such lovely colors and I pulled out the teal color and decided to use it for the crossbody bag, necklace and you’ll see the wooden watch has a teal face. Even though it is almost fall, I like to pop a little color into the browns, oranges, warm reds, yellows and caramels you usually see surface during the fall season.

To add a little playfulness to this outfit, I added a colorful tassel bracelet and the yellows and teal colors work with the colors of the beads on the tank.

I have been wanting a pair of Karen Walker sunnies forever, so of course… I added those and the pair I chose would really go with about any outfit and/or any season.

I also added these Toms Desert Wedge Booties, because they are super cute and I’ve been wanting a pair for a couple of years now. They would go great with destructed skinnies with a little flare (just a little!), so of course you’ll see a nice pair from the Gap… because, we all know that the Gap has well-fitting jeans down!

The wooden watch by Jord is made with zebra wood and has a turquoise face. I really like the natural element and color that the wood gives to the outfit.

AND, top it all off with a nice wool hat and you have a super dandy fall outfit. And, the blardigan is great as a layer for you to remove and tie around your waist or hang over your shoulder when it warms up midday.

And, just a little about me before you go about your day (just in case you want to stop by my blog (link HERE), I’d LOVE to have you!).

Ada on Dressing down a (blue) dress

July 31, 2015

Hello Garay Treasures Readers. My Name is Ada and I blog over at Elegance and Mommyhood. I (mostly) am a stay-at-home mom to my 2.5-year old daughter Vivian. My blog is about my personal style and I share some of my life as well: such as vacations, what I have been up to and of course mommy hood. Vivian does a lot of Mommy+Me Style Posts with me, as well. I am so happy to be here for Rachel today while she is enjoying Summer Vacation with her beautiful family.

Anyone who knows me or follows my blog, is aware of my love for Dresses. I own over a hundred. A lot of them are on the dressier side, though. But as a busy mom of a toddler who is always running around and keeping me on my toes, I want most of my dresses to do double-duty. So, often, I dress down some of my nicer dresses. This is good, because as a bargain shopper, I am all about stretching my closet and remixing my pieces, too. Today I am showing you a recent outfit I wore where I dressed down my Fit+Flare Royal Blue Dress. This Silky Dress purchased last Summer is a little more suited for a date night, a shower or a fun Summer cocktail party with the nice zipper-front detail. But adding Little Jelly Sandals to it and some Casual Everyday Colorful Bracelets, I certainly dressed it down. I did keep it a little fancy and girly still by adding two cocktail rings (though they are not fancy/evening out kind), red lipstick and a neon statement necklace. Like in a lot of my posts, I included little Vivian here today. She is also wearing a Blue Dress. Hers is Navy with Polka Dots. She – like Mommy – owns a lot of dresses. =) So, how would you dress down a Fancy Dress or a Silky Dress? Linked below I found many similar pretty options like my dress. If you stop by my blog today, you will see how I dressed down a LBD. Thank you for reading!

Multi-Colored, Neon, Cluster, Statement Necklace: A Local Accessories Boutique (gorgeous option by Bauble Bar, my favorite), (fun bib option, best deal, love this), (fun cluster option).
Stretchy Beaded Bracelet w/ Silver+Royal Blue Crystals: Random Street Vendor (similar by Nine West, best deal, love this), (multi-stranded option by WHBM, great deal, my favorite), (similar gorgeous option, Splurge).
Hunter Green Stretchy Beaded Bracelet: Forever 21.
Silver-Tone Tiny Cuff w/ 1 Floaty Coral Beads: Street Vendor.
Light Coral+Pave Abstract-Shaped Ring: A Local Boutique (New).
Black Floral, Wayfarer Sunglasses: Random Street Vendor for 2$! (New) (similar Wayfarer, best deal), (retro option by Chic Nova, love these), (similar Wayfarer in pink floral, love these).
Vivian’s Navy Polka Dot Dress: Carter’s.

Here is how I have dressed up my Royal Blue Fit+Flare Dress before, for a Dinner Date.

Here is another Bright Summer Dressy Dress I dressed down, this Summer.

Target wear with Brandzaffair Part 2 & Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up

June 30, 2015

If you read yesterdays post (here) then you may have discovered that I choose three items from Target in collaboration with Brandzaffair and today am modeling for you the other item I received from Target. My first crop top, along with the wedged sandals I received from Target as well.

Before I go into full outfit details here is a little bit about Brandzaffair. Brandzaffair’s mission and whole site is based around the “Ultimate Online Shopping Experience” meaning they include šall of your favorite store links (stores like Nordstrom, Old Navy, Express, J.Crew, Banana Republic, Lilly Pullitzer, Target and more) on one page and allow you to shop with just a click to each logo for the desired brand. The site was easy to navigate but when Brandzaffair allowed me to pick out an item(s) I had a hard time choosing. I finally narrowed down my wants to three pieces and today I am styling two of the pieces today and I styled another item I got in yesterdays post here.  I found it easy to just click on the logos and shop and even explore the newest deals that Brandzaffair provided on their site.
Brandzaffair will even donate 2.5% of the net profit to a customers desired charity once a purchase is made with the listed logos on their site to charities here.

I just love the flare and comfortableness of this crop top I choose from Brandzaffairs page of stores, mine coming from Target as mentioned above. I choose a plus sized top but could have gone lower in size but with online shopping there comes the unknown sometimes but the fit is actually nice on this top regardless if it is a bit bigger.

IMG_2239

You may not know this but I love the color blue to wear so I am happy with the little details of blue in the top and so I paired it with blue and gold accented jewelry and my new blue shorts from Old Navy. These shorts have cute tassel drawstrings that you can barely see but these shorts are a medium since Old Navy large sizes are a bit big on me.

I added my new wedges from Target courtesy of Brandzaffair and just love them. I sized up to a 8 when I ordered these summer bad boys because while I am a size 7, somehow Target’s shoes sizes don’t match up real well and 8’s always fit me better.

Thank you Brandzaffair for this opportunity! Which look was your favorite from this collaboration from the photo below?

Shannon looks absolutely lovely in her maxi dresses and while I am not much of a boho style person I do appreciate it and especially on Shannon ALL the time. This lovely dress is just a dose of the lively, boho style Shannon wears on her blog so I hope you will check out this look more and her blog here.

Yana posts a very cute post all about ridiculous trends that I found amusing, one being the dainty little clutch purses (even though she styles one here) but I love her response to my comment on these annoying but cute purses, Yana: “This bag is like a bad boyfriend, you know he kinda ruins everything for you, but he’s so cute haha.” AMEN yana haha! Check out her complaints here and check out her lovely style while you are at it.

I love Alena’s new take on wearing a kimono over a maxi dress, how simple is this yet a whole new way to wear a kimono to get the most out of one too. I am definitely trying this. Check out her post here.

Carrie posted three recipes to some delicious looking infused water drinks that I cannot wait to try. Perfect for this 90-100 degree heat we have been having. See the recipes here.

My Personal Style Identified & Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me link up

June 23, 2015

Over the weekend I was browsing some blog posts and came across this one from Grace (colorandgrace.com) and in her post she challenged me to think about my personal style as hers was determined as more elegant and sophisticated. While I would have considered my fashion style to be that of jeans and a t-shirt or workout pants and a tank top I wanted to consider the times I actually do get dolled and dressed up (especially on the weekends, shopping dates, dates with the hubby and friends and to church). I asked my hubby what he thought my fashion sense or style was and he said “classy, casual but pretty.” I appreciated his response as I wanted to start from somewhere and do some research.

fashionsensecollage

I did some pinning and even took a quiz on personal style here and came out labeled “classy prep” haha! Actually I think that fits. I like to dress like Cameron Diaz, Reese Witherspoon, and Ashley Olsen as far as modern day star style icons go and Audrey Hepburn with Marilyn Monroe in tow.

In the above collage picture you will see some looks that make me feel confident. I think it is the heels, low-key jewelry and neutral colors. These looks do not define my look everyday, but by golly if I worked an administrative job you betcha I would dress up more like this. These looks show fearlessness, confidence, love for my body and curves and more.

I am so glad Grace inspired me to this little challenge as I want this blog to begin to show the me that is confident in an outfit that fits rather than an outfit thrown together.

What is your personal style? Are you bohemian? Romantic? Classy? Sporty? Flirty? Sophisticated? Something else?

I can’t thank many of you enough as last Tuesdays link up started out as a piece of cake, then disaster hit and most of the post got deleted as I edited one thing in the post. BOOM an earth quake to the blog began and everything went wrong so I had to do a whole other post to host the link up and then all was good again/  It was actually the largest link up yet, 75 links. So thank you for your support! I also have several co-hosts lined up in the next few weeks as well so that is exciting! Want to co-host? e-mail me at rachel.garay@me.com.

Now on to the link up:

Here are todays featured bloggers: (There are more than 5 featured today as there was a common theme or same item posted for several bloggers that I couldn’t pass up, so welcome to a unique featured blogger version for today).

My lovely blogging friends Tiffany, Becky and Jill  collaborated (along with another blogger Courtney) to style this lovely “Love More, Hate Less” tee from the company Kentucky Brewed Company, the idea is to buy one tee and you get another one free but to give to a friend or someone you love to “Love More.” What a cool idea and these three fashionistas linked up their collaborative looks. Click on their names to see how they styled theres.

I am inspired by her beautiful outfits, take on fashion and America (since coming from China) to her lovely blog photos. While Grace and I have collaborated in the past a few times and she links up each week I just felt that she deserves some recognition for being a newbie fashion blogger that is hitting the big fashion blogger charts and quick! I would love to have one up this week if possible.
