Favorite Sweater, Mom’s Birthday & Link up

April 12, 2016

Yes, this is my favorite chunky oversized sweater, thank you very much.

Actually it’s my only sweater (that isn’t a cardigan) and I can’t thank my mom enough for gifting it to me.  In fact today is my mom’s Birthday (HAPPY BIRTHDAY MOM! I LOVE YOU!). For weeks it was divine Spring weather and now it is freezing again, perfect sweater weather for me.

A sweater like this is so versatile and can be worn with shorts, skirts, leggings, under overalls, oh the possibilities and ways it could go. Now to come away from sounding Dr. Seuss-ish I wanted to let this post be dedicated to my mom in honor of my mom’s Birthday. She asked for a certain gift, which I cannot reveal just yet but below are some ways in which my mom should be honored today.

My mom has a heart of gold and has adopted 13 children, 1 from my hometown, 3 from Vietnam and 9 from China.

My mom is very giving. She will meet people that are less fortunate just to make sure they have clothes/toys/shoes/furniture, etc.

My mom loves her grandchildren and step grandchildren.

My mom is a bargain hunter and LOVES to shop consignments, thrift stores or yard sales (where she happened to find this sweater for me).

My mom loves fashion designers and good bargains on designer items (this is where I got my love and appreciation for fashion. OH and this sweater is a Ralph Lauren that she probably picked up for pennies).

My mom advocates for others, especially orphans and Christian morals.

My mom loves her children, (my dad) and her 3 doggies and grand dogs.

and the list goes on and on…but if there was one thing I am VERY grateful for it would be that before I was born she and my dad prayed for my salvation in Christ, well-being, health and the man I would marry. I couldn’t thank them enough for their prayers and thoughts of me while still in the womb.

Again Happy Birthday Mom!

Dying over the fringe on those booties and the texture in that sweater (I always love marled fabrics — they’re so easy to maintain and always look chic — AND they just so happen to cameoflauge hitchhiking pugs hairs too…).

Happy birthday to your mum, she sounds so amazing. I love to hear people give so much of themselves to help others. You look great (as always) in that chunky sweater.

  • Sheela Goh April 13, 2016 at 3:44 pm

Rachel, your mum is a hero. A true hero. 13 (adopted) children!!! Here I am whining about 3 (hangs head in shame). What an amazingly strong woman. And how beautiful that bit, about her and your dad, praying for your life, even before you were born. I love all these mushy, sappy stories. In a world that’s so cynical and embittered, a touch of what I call everyday miracles performed by regular people makes things a little brighter, whiter, better 🙂 Happiest of birthdays to your mum xoxo

p/s thank you, so so much, for featuring my story, you know how much I appreciate your feedback 🙂
