Off Shoulder Overlay Top & Flared Jeans (with Sammy Dress)

August 29, 2016

How was your week, weekend? Mine was both stressful and nice. My two kids started their first week back at school and my son (now a preschooler) really enjoys his class. Already I am seeing an improvement with how he is learning nursery rhymes, talking about his day, and making friends. My seven year old had an easy week with no homework. While the kids had a good week back to school my week had it’s ups and downs and I brought it upon myself.

I realized Thursday night just how much this blog is taking a toll on time I could be spending with my husband and kids (in the evenings). I have been fortunate to take opportunities and collaborations (with bloggers and brands) but while it’s my own fault I just feel like my family is getting the short end of the time pile at least these past few days and that makes me sad. I have companies ย reaching out to me like crazy and I have had to back away and either delete the messages, turn down or ignore them and only respond to those that I know are brands I have worked with and enjoyed in the past.

I need to re-learn to balance life and hopefully with a new start to this week I can get my life more organized (as Back-to-School tends to force us to change our habits and routines). My plans are to be more organized with my time, create a meal plan, and spend more quality time with my whole family in the evenings, even if that means the blog gets the short end of the pile for a bit. With that said there will be no post this coming Wednesday (I guest posted for another blogger but more to come on that).

The weather here is hot lately, but sadly summer feels like it’s coming to an end. Before the fall outfits and cooler weather I have a few more summery outfits to show off in the next few posts. Today’s look is one of them. I liked my off the shoulder dress this summer (see post here) and decided to try an off the shoulder overlay top, luckily I found this one on Sammy Dress for less than $20.

I LOVE the color of this top and how flattering the top looks on me. The shirt is a bit more tight around my midsection than I would have liked it too but I made it work I think by styling it with some mid-rise distressed denim flared jeans and my new heels from Sammy Dress (also styled here). I added several accessories to add a “cool element” notably in these gradual colored glasses that were also from Sammy Dress (for only $3), my JORD watch and other fun bangles and bracelets. This look is definitely falls under the go into fall transition.

I warned my husband a few days ahead about this cute outfit combination and needless to say the day I wore it he was in love. He liked the boho meets glammed look to it and probably labeled it at the top of his favorite outfit-on-me list. Believe me there is A LOT on that list (insert silly tongue out of mouth face).

I will share a few more summer outfit posts coming up but until then stay cool (if you have heat where you are) and enjoy the rest of summer weather while you can.

Have you tried the off the shoulder trend yet?

What outfits are you still holding on to, to take into fall?

I feel like that is all I do in the evenings, blog, blog, blog… and, yes… it does get old sometimes! I just hope to figure out some better time management strategies… This outfit is so pretty on you, I really do love everything about it! That off the shoulder top is something I would def. wear and I love that the flare jeans are distressed. I need to get a pair of flares soon!

Such a cute outfit! And I’ve backed away from blogging at times when I feel like it starts to take over time with my kids and family! Blogging is a fun outlet but I always want my family to be first! It can be tough juggling fun, kids, hubby, friends etc. and sometimes taking a breath helps!

I love your outfit! That’s one of the things I dislike about blogging is that you are never off. You could easily be doing something 24/7 – and I have two blogs!

What a cute outfit Rachel! I’ve been wanting to try some flared jeans but have been too scared haha

It’s so difficult to find a balance with blogging, family, and everything else in life. I know once my baby arrives, it’s going to take some time to figure it all out and get a new routine. But you look amazing in this outfit!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the good work!

I absolutely love this look on you! The top is so cute with the flares, and I love the color of the heels and the bag with it. Definitely understand needing to cut back on the blog. I’ve had to learn that a time or two with friendships, so I can imagine how much more pressing that is when it’s your family!

I love it!! Gorgeous look, babe!

Blogging is super time-consuming and I took it easy this Summer. I have always wanted a chambray-like OTS top and I love yours, especially paired with flared jeans.

  • Kishina Heaggans August 30, 2016 at 9:05 am

Gorgeous top, Rachel! I’m agreeing with hubby. This is at the top of the list of my all-time favorite looks on you…lol. This top is so flattering. Not to revealing and giving us some moderate sexiness. I must find one that will fit me. Prayerfully you will find balance in doing ALL things that you love. I can totally relate to trying to find that balance. I think that an ongoing thing with life and trying figure it all out. Thanks for sharing!

Family always comes first. I struggled with this when I first started blogging and didn’t even have companies reaching out to me. My attitude now is I blog when I can, and if I’m not consistent my loyal readers will be there no matter what. But I definitely see the other side too if this is a source of income for people and you need to be consistent. Fortunately my lunch break at work gives me some time to put posts together so my time at home with my family is focused on them. Love your top by the way! I just gave in and got my first off the shoulder top and I’m trying to figure out why I wanted so long! Beautifully Candid

I’m sure you find your way to have balance. It is not easy. In fact, it is every day fight. o) Love you outfit. Top has beautiful color and is super cute. And it has good price, which is not bad too. o)

This is a cute outfit! I agree, it is so hard to find a good balance no matter how many things your are juggling, but that seems to be something we have to do often in life, no matter how difficult.
