Poncho-fringe-white-plum-boutique-hat

My hubby and I took these photos on a date night, in front of a high school drive and what do you know there were cars coming in and out and drivers and passengers watching us…yep typical life of a fashion blogger, at least I wasn’t alone with my tripod as I still haven’t mastered it.

Any tips with a tripod?

This week has been a busy one so far and often times I just have to remind myself to not stress, but life happens. So this post is short and sweet today, however I did want to mention some of my new favorite wardrobe items.

maroon-hat-mint-julep-boutique-poncho

This hat is the loveliest fall complimentary accessory and I was thrilled to have recently purchased it from Mint Julep Boutique (in combination with some credit from a giveaway I won thanks to Keisha of Queen Life Blog, thanks girly!) so this hat ended up being a little under $10 shipping included out of pocket, score!

black-white-aztec-poncho-maroon-hat

The boots I received are from Target and are compliments of Brandzaffair a site I use to shop easily for items from stores I love. I couldn’t decide if I wanted boots from Nordstrom, Forever 21 or Target so while clicking on each store through Brandzaffair I went with my instincts and of course choose Target to find these lovelies as I knew the sizing of Targets shoes better than the other stores and choose an 8 when in reality I am a 7. These fit like a charm and I CAN’T stop wearing them.

I paired these new additions with my poncho that I got last year, leggings and ifChic tote and felt good to go for fall weather that finally is here.

What new additions have you added to your wardrobe?

I love the hat super cute I was trying some one a few weeks ago I could not make up my mind on which I preferred I love the cranberry with your hair. I love the fact you took the pics in-front of the High School. I was taking mine this week in front of a house that is for sale on my street. I tried the tripod but it is hard to work if you don’t have something to focus on. Have a great week.

I’ve gotten the honk and stare, or the honk and whistle, or just the weird looks from people wondering what I’m doing. I like when people actually ask what I’m doing because then they get it haha. Especially when I shoot with the one lens I have you have to be really far in order to get a good shot so sometimes people just think I’m posing for no reason! Great look you have here by the way, hope you date night went well!

Girl, that outfit is so cute! Love the hat, poncho, and booties – perfectly fall. I can’t seem to get comfortable taking photos outside. I know they make for prettier backgrounds, but people staring makes me feel awkward and self-conscious. Good for you & the hubs taking them despite the gawkers!

  • Jennie November 10, 2015 at 8:01 am

Your new booties are gorgeous, Rachel! My eyes were immediately drawn to them. Your poncho and hat are also so fab. I take all my photos using my tripod and would like to start incorporating different angles with it in the future. Do you have a camera remote? That is a key piece to using a tripod – primarily for focusing, otherwise it is pretty difficult.

  • Nicki November 10, 2015 at 9:58 am

I thank you so much for featuring my thrifted red cape this week! And I totally relate to your feeling weird when people are watching you take pictures. For the longest time I confined myself to my own yard because I am so self conscious about it. Lately though I have been trying to venture out to new territory with just me and my tripod. But I have been going to places where I don’t see a lot of other people, like walking trails and parks. I have also been going to my church at a time of day that no one is there! I use my tripod all the time, but I want to learn to use it with a remote. right now, I click the shutter and then hurry and get in place for the picture. And I do also vary the height of the tripod for different views.

  • Tea November 10, 2015 at 10:08 am

Lol at you being a “fashion blogger sighting” for some people – oh well, life of a blogger! They probably all think you’re famous or something.
I use a tripod to take my pictures almost every day. My tip is this: take a LOT of pictures and pick the best. I set my camera to take 10 shots in a row and then I do that probably about 4 or 5 times. That does mean that I have about 50 pictures to get through in order to sort and edit before I do a post but at least I end up with some good pics.
The other trick is to make sure you’re in focus if you’re using a tripod. Set a manual focus and then walk in front rather than letting any kind of auto-focus set your pics out of focus. And last – just own it! You look great, who cares if folks are staring!

Another pretty boho look! Have a great week, Rachel!

  • Ginger Wroot November 10, 2015 at 10:17 am

You asked about a camera tripod. I shoot all of my own fashion photos, and you can see the reflection of my tripod pretty well on some of the photos on this post: http://gingerwroot.com/wroot-wore-wednesday-long-fringed-vest/ I recommend just an inexpensive, standard, all-purpose camera tripod. You will also need a plastic chair or something lightweight that you can stand up to focus your camera on, which you can then easily move and step in place of while your camera timer counts down. I use a lightweight stool that I can easily move out of the frame. It’s nice doing it all on your own, so you don’t have to test the patience of your photographer and work on his or her schedule. Right now, I’m looking into a remote camera control to make life even easier.

  • Shea November 10, 2015 at 10:18 am

Gorgeous fall look–I love that hat and the fun poncho! I’d like to get a tripod so I have options when my husband can’t take my picture, but I’m intimidated by how to use them!

Gorgeous, gorgeous hat! I like the poncho too. I had a similar hat, but then I sold it for pennies practically on Poshmark. Still sad about that decision. haha.
