It all began about three or four weeks ago, I was at home washing dishes or cleaning something and I thought to myself, “you know it has been three or four years since a hair makeover, and boy do I need one.” Besides trimmings here and there and trying new hair styles my hair was in dire need of some coloring as grey hairs were showing up and I felt I deserved some pampering, however there were two things standing in my way- time and money. I say this to be real with you. As a stay-at-home mom of 4 with a husband working it isn’t easy to get away much less have the extra $150-$300 for hair coloring or highlights at a hair salon. So I brushed away the thought like I do each year and thought perhaps another time when we knew where finances stood with my hubbies new job.
Fast forward a bit from my thought and I went to church one Wednesday night and a woman named Merisol I have come to love and respect came up to me and told me she wanted to do a hair makeover, and try a new product out. She also told me that her apprentice Amber, whom I met that same Wednesday would be doing my hair. I asked her “I will think about it, how much is the cost?” and she said “don’t worry about it, we take good care of you and make you look beautiful.” I agreed and then collected her number a few days later following worship service and then this past Friday I set out to Merisol’s salon ‘Sol Hair Studios‘ for my first highlights in four years and let me tell you it was amazing.
As you can see above in the first photo my hair was in my natural curl when I went in and in need of trim and some fresh coloring. When I arrived I was offered and given coffee, then placed in a wrap robe and then on top of that given a black smock over top for extra protection and told to have a seat in one of the chairs. Right away Merisol and Amber discussed with me the new products they were trying and the colors to put in. I told them I wanted one of them to be blonde. They agreed and then ‘Sol told me she recommended a copper brown for the other shade, however she wanted the blonde to be more pronounced. Amber got to work after mixing up the colors. While she worked I read some blogs, and enjoyed another cup of coffee.
I waited for 35 minutes for the color to set in and then shampooing and conditioning time was heaven. The way in which Amber washed and conditioned my hair was a massage in itself. She scrubbed and massaged around the temple, sides and back of the neck all while washing. I commented on her good massaging to which she replied “oh I am not massaging, just washing,” and I laughed and thanked her anyway. This went on for awhile and then I sat in a chair for the drying of the hair and then actual hair trim. Afterward Amber straightened my hair.
While my hair was being straightened a remarkable thing happened. Merisol went to a make up drawer, grabbed a handful of make-up products and began applying make up all over my face. As she was doing my eye make up I closed my eyes to hide tears and silently thanked God.
When I opened my eyes she asked me “So Rachel, how do you feel?” I cried and told her how much I wanted a makeover all these years and I thanked her over and over. She told me that sometimes we as women and moms get so “busy and need to take care of ourselves,” and I agreed with her.
Merisol went on to complete my make up and then she removed cuticles and did my nails with O.P.I polish products which I have now come to love. The end result of the make-over was AMAZING!
Merisol got some after photos of me and you can view them here. I was very pleased with all the products used, results and work of Amber and Merisol. If you live in the Roanoke, VA area I highly recommend Sol Hair Studios, and I thank Merisol and Amber for making me feel special and for their gift of a makeover. God, thank you for providing and for using the gifts of Amber and Merisol to bless me, I can’t thank you enough for this blessing.
How have you been pampered recently?
*Sorry there are not a lot of shots here, my phone died in the salon and so the photo collage photo is taken from Sol Hair Studio’s facebook page here. I was not compensated for this post but was part of a training and testing of new products and techniques and just had to share this awesome business and opportunity. Thanks for reading.
