Keeping the Sabbath

June 1, 2015

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone had a good weekend. Our Saturday was jam packed with stuff going on from a yard sale to a pool party at my cousins home (photos coming Wednesday) to a GREAT and restful Sunday.

Our Sunday was so restful because I learned in Wednesday nights Bible study that there is power and rejuvination when we keep the Sabbath day Holy. Some areas we can do this is remembering this day as the Lords and we should delight in it and rest, remembering that God took the time to rest and provide this special day so we can enjoy it and be in remembrance and fellowship with Him.

I am not saying that we shouldn’t be in fellowship with him everyday, but that we should set apart a Sabbath to just rest. No stressing, and no working. Instead we should be doing the things that allow us to ease our minds and hearts to focus on Him. For me on Sunday this looks like taking a nap, going on a walk or just simply being with my family and friends to bring about some peace in the week.

I am beginning to implement this because some Sundays or Sabbath days are unfortunately busy or rather I make it busy when it doesn’t have to be. Sure there will be Sabbaths where I might stress over some issues in life but the point is knowing how to take care of things before the Sabbath (clean the house Saturday night, prepare the next days meals or activities ahead of time, etc.). My husband and I cleaned the house, took care of business stuff and our meals before Sunday and just enjoyed it.

Here is what God’s word says about the Sabbath day and resting:

From Isaiah 58:13-14 (NIV), “If you keep the Sabbath a delight and the Lord’s holy day honorable, and if you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, then you will find your joy in the Lord, and I will cause you to ride on the heights of the land and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.” The mouth of the Lord has spoken.

What I also learned is that by keeping the Sabbath a Holy and honorable day in the Lord then we will be blessed as stated in the verse above “..and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob”. I also love that these are from the Lord and he spoke this command. I sure am feeling blessed in mind, body and spirit already.

This coming Sabbath I encourage you to reflect on ways you can relax and refocus your heart, mind and soul on God.

How do you relax or keep the Sabbath Holy?

Thanks for reading!

I always feel like Sunday sets the tone/mood for the entire week and it is important to carve out some time to relax. This weekend we didn’t do much on Saturday OR Sunday and it was great. Sure, the kids get a little stir-crazy when we are home all day… but, we had been running non-stop the last four weekends and it was nice to have nothing to do for once. Those are beautiful fountain photos of your kids!

My grandparents were sticklers for honoring the Sabbath. I think this is a great idea!!!!

I grew up with such strict rules for Sunday’s. We try to make it a family day but have grace. We rest and do something fun and love it!
