How to make money to blog as a stay-at-home mom

April 27, 2015

Are you a stay-at-home mom that loves pouring money into your blog but wonder how you can make some quick cash to put towards your blog in the first place? Or maybe you are wondering in general how to help supplement your significant others income?  Do you find it hard to earn even a dollar off your blog? As a stay-at-home mom of four I used to ask myself these questions.

I also get asked question of “Are you making money off your blog?” and while people are curious I also think they are just jesting with me, but once I tell them that I am but slowly they then proceed with the how? when? where? questions. Because I get this question asked a lot I thought I would do a post covering how I earn money to blog, as well as earn money to contribute to giveaways on my blog or Instagram loop giveaways, and pay for the “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” widget each month. First of all I must acknowledge that while I love blogging and that it is a creative outlet for my passions for fashion, family and faith it is also a way for me to gain some income that I put back into the blog. I also believe there are many ways of earning income blogging, and that there is no right way to do it but I am going to share some tips on how I do it and what I would like to do in the near future.

I believe this is the number one factor in how God has allowed me to continue to receive to blog. If you are not familiar with tithing let me tell you what you are missing out on. Tithing is giving 10% or more of your income to God, this is through your church, a ministry (who serves and shares the gospel according to the Bible), to missions. While my husband and I tithe his income, even tax returns I felt called to tithe whatever I make blogging. If I make such and such money on a sponsored post I am going to tithe it, or if I make money in other things to put towards the blog I tithe this. Any way we get money we tithe it back to God and we have seen an AMAZING OUTPOUR of abundance and blessings when we least expected it.

Save money and have a plan: If my husband and I want luxury items like a new Michael Kors purse, or gym membership for a month, new TV or furniture we save money or consider what we have in our retained earnings to put towards these items in the future. For example, my new DSLR Cannon Eos camera was saved for with money from sponsored posts I did, to Birthday money. We used some of the recent tax return to invest in my new blog domain name with as well as buy a hosted blog through Hence

Marble Jar:
This Marble Jar concept was blogged about here but it is still how each family member in our family (including myself and hubby) earn $10 to spend on whatever. I know $10 is really low but that is what we have budgeted as a reward for now for everyone for completing tasks that are hard to get done, etc. I have used my $10 to contribute to a giveaway, buy from several friends online boutiques, buy some clothing items, etc.
Starting out (entering giveaways):
Back when I first started blogging my hubby had just transitioned into a new job from owning his own contracting business and while we didn’t have debt money was still tight but I wanted to blog using outfits I had but I wanted to  slowly transition in  a trendy item here or there but didn’t know how, then I discovered giveaways. Yes, I will admit I was that girl that entered giveaways and won a lot of them and blogged about what I got, but truth be told we didn’t have the extra money to spend so this was an easy “look at the necklace I am wearing I won it from blah, blah, blah” or “I can’t wait to use this gift card on date night.” I learned though that while giveaways are nice and fun they can sometimes be a waste of time so that is why I only enter a couple a month. In fact, I have been researching and collaborating with other bloggers and shops to contribute to giveaways now that there is extra money earned, keep reading to find out how.

Sponsorships and collaboration:

Blogging has opened up so many doors as I have collaborated with many bloggers and brands. In so doing this I have learned more about the power of social media influences, how to present products or a company in a timely manner as well as enjoy that $20 or $50 I receive in collaboration. Once again any money I make I tithe.

Click on links commission:

I recently started using affiliate links through These links when clicked on my blog earn me 5 cents. I have to admit it is fun to see what everyone is clicking on and how much I make a week; however I can’t cash out what I am making til I reach $100, which will take some time. For examples on how you can help me earn 5 cents today click on the images of my favorite items below. Thanks a million!

Online surveys:

I was introduced to a website called which consists of online or by mail surveys that earn the participants (if they qualify) points. When these points accumulate to 30 you can get a $5 Amazon giftcard, or my favorite and what I do oftern is earn 100 points to exchange for $10 paypal money. So far I have earned $60+  this way and most of that money goes to giveaways or I bought presents with some of the money earned. If you want to sign up to do this go here.

Ways in which I would like to earn more money or could:

Etsy shop: Coming!

My husband and I recently did a few DIY projects like this glass picture/scripture frame. Will custom make one for the buyer at $60 or more.

and this jewelry cork board holder(hooks included in with boards but NOT jewelry):

Instagram shop: Coming!:

I have so many shirts, dresses and jewelry I don’t wear anymore or never wore that I would love to sell on an instagram shop. I would also like to sell my children’s nicer outfits that they either outgrew or won’t wear this way as well.

Everywhere Agency: There is a site another blogger named Melissa introduced me to and that is and here fashionistas can apply to attend events or campaigns and be paid for doing so or just pre-advertising the event if no attendance is planned. While I have applied for one campaign I am not sure I will get it as its an event hours from my home and they prefer to pay those that can attend over those that just share the event on social media.

You could yard sale, consign, sell on local facebook pages, join other affiliate sites such as or amazon anything you can come up with to help you as a stay-at-home mom gain some extra cash to put into the blog. Once again the things above are what I choose to do or would like to start doing. What about you, how do you earn money to blog as a stay-at-home mom? Not a stay-at-home mom, then what do you do to earn money for your blog? Linking up with: Molly, Motivational Monday, Tuesday Talk, Pin Crazy Thursdays.

I used to do Opinion Outpost, but somehow stopped… I used to make a lot of money through them. I need to sign up again, or see if my account is still around. I also want to check out the everywhere agency I have been meaning to start doing shop sense (btw, that Kendra Scott necklace is gorg!). I too want to start an Etsy shop, but just haven’t had time to devote to it just yet. Good luck on all of your future endeavors!!

Hey Rachel! Lol, I’ve been out of the blogging loop for a while and had to click on this when I saw it in my e-mail. I was definitely not expecting to find myself, haha!

Regardless, I started writing a comment and then realized that it was turning into a post of its’ own, filled with affiliate links and a whole lot of “blah blah blah…”.

I’ll be sure to share it with you, and the rest of the Glitterati, once all and said is done. Good luck with the Everywhere Agency job! Hopefully some events will start popping up next to you. Otherwise, you’re welcome to come and be my neighbor!
