Who cares.. be free

June 8, 2016

I think that sometimes people throw things at us about what is expected of us. Like how could you dress at that age? dress like that? Sometimes I am very conscious of these things and worry about what I wear but not this cold shoulder shirt dress. I wore it as a top recently and then this happened. This was my second time wearing it -but as a dress (shorts underneath of course) and I am glad I did. I wear this with confidence. Who cares what others think. I got many responses from wearing this out and about with my hubby on a date. Responses that make me laugh and respond in this most unnatural way.

“You look so carefree and relaxed in your outfit, you look pretty but awwww your pregnant belly!” I got this response from a sales lady at Kohls. Positive lead by an assumption. My response, “no not pregnant but I do have babies back home” so guess I got to get working on the belly but in this dress who cares.

Walking into a bohemian boutique, sales lady “I like your dress,” followed with comments after touching boho shirts “that would look good on you.” (Man if only I had blogging business cards to hand out at this point).

“Fatty!” blurted out my younger brothers. Me, laughter.

“I love that outfit on you, it’s one of my favorites” stated my hubby

What are my thoughts? I felt younger and wanted to be free-carefree. In fact while wearing this outfit I wondered if I was testing the dressing of age. I am 31 making myself out to be 18 or some similar age and you know what? Who cares. My point is that sometimes you need to dress how you want and with confidence. I may not be younger, skinnier or pregnant but I can wear what makes me feel free to express myself.

That is the best feeling.

What makes you feel carefree? Confident?

You are so right and I hate that society wants to tell us what we should/should not wear because of our age/size/skin-coloring. That dress is gorgeous on you, you keep rocking it!! 🙂

I think it’s important to wear what you want. Fashion should be an expression of you anyway!

Absolutely! Keep this attitude, Rachel! Those pesky rules only get more bothersome with age and best to ignore them starting now! God knows, I do! 😉

I often wonder if I’m dressing too young for my age, but then if I feel good it it, I don’t care what others think. I love this cold shoulder dress and you pull of the boho look perfectly. PS, I’ve been asked when I’m due three times when I wasn’t pregnant (and this was before I had my kids) It’s not a fun feeling.

You know how I feel about people who think there are “age-appropriate rules” when it comes to dressing, Rachel. I’ve hardly been shy about vocalising my thoughts about this ridiculous concept 🙂 and I am SO glad you just went for it with this dress/top. You look fabulous. You look happy. You look confident. And those are all traits which no amount of shopping budget can buy. How cool are you 🙂 xoxo
