Changes, Things up noses (literally)& link up

April 22, 2016

What a week, filled with good changes and odd happenings. First off the changes then the odd things that occurred or kept occurring.

Change #1: As told from Tuesdays post I am bringing in more life, me and faith into this blog. My blog was becoming an open magazine or advertisement filled with what “people wanted to read.” I got so many encouraging comments on Tuesday from like minded bloggers that felt they were losing themselves in blogging with no room to be genuine. Honestly my genuine posts or posts where I am teaching something are my most memorable for myself versus “look how many ways I style this blah blah blah..” or “how lovely is this dress, shirt…. you get the picture.” I want to let this blog reflect more of who God is in my life, what He is doing, where I am growing or falling. I am still going to put a few “How to do this” posts in here and there, and I will still have opportunities for collaborations with other bloggers or brands but I am not going to let this be my obsession like it’s been for weeks or months.

Ecclesiastes 3:1- “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.”

Change #2: My husband and I are on Day 6 of no processed foods or drinks. We both decided to do this as a way of getting out of feeling awful each day. We are not doing this as a means of loosing weight (although I feel a bit lighter, but don’t own a scale to see results) and this is not a spiritual fast of any kind. We feel amazing and see the benefits of going natural. So what are we doing or seeing? I can do a post on this in the near future.

Change #3: I got a hair cut.

Now for my odd happenings:

1).Two of my kids went in and out of fevers for days leaving us calling the nurses worrying often only to be assured it’s a way of fighting infections. Allergies are in full at our house.

2).  I somehow got jalapeno oil in my nose while cooking (which burned and made my nose run and hurt for half an hour before going away with much washing of water and soap). At least it wasn’t my eyes (which has happened to my husband before).

3). While we are on the topic of noses, my Elizabeth got a little bead up her nose. I freaked out! She was still breathing and fine but I worried more would happen.  You can imagine being home alone with three toddlers, getting a call from the school nurse to come get our 7 seven year old for having a fever all while dealing with how to get a bead out of the nose of a 2 year old. I called the pediatricians office and spoke to a nurse who recommended nasal spray saline solution or bring in if that didn’t help. We didn’t have any spray on hand so I feared a grocery run was needed as well as a school run to get a sick child. While transitioning to the vehicle, Elizabeth sniffed the bead right out. WHEW! and of all things it was pink (which is her favorite color).

Just crazy, odd things you know?!?

What are some changes in your life?

i don’t know if it’s the haircut or the color, but you look younger and more vibrant. i thought so yesterday too. good for you with the food cleanse, maybe it’s that? also, i have that purse in bright pink. it’s so versatile. i just bought a new black one, since i didn’t win at designer bag bingo i went to, or another money game…i was needing a pick me up and the ks sale right now for 25% off, yes please! so i am not a fan of the increase in religion talk, but i can just skip that part.
    have a great weekend.

Love the hair cut! On man, jalapenos are dangerous. I got it in my eye once. No processed foods sounds awesome! I try to do that most of the time, although I definitely do not always succeed.

So good to see you co-host the linkup. Such good changes too. I am all for #2 and #3. I need a haircut badly and also a fresh new hair coloring or perhaps some highlights.

I am so sorry about the bead up your daughter’s nose. Thankfully she got it it out and in such a natural way. I laughed at the fact that it was pink. Ahhh little kids.

Your outfit is so simple yet so chic. Leave it to a cool necklace and leopard flats to elevate the look!

    Enjoy the weekend Rachel!

Isn’t it crazy how we blog can change so often and sometimes so drastically??

  • Heather April 24, 2016 at 12:32 pm

I love this post Rachel – I always find your posts to be very real, authentic, and inspiring! I agree – blogging can be kind of crazy, and it is easy to get “sucked in” to the more surface-like topics and lose oneself a bit. Love this and you have inspired me!

I can’t believe your all’s luck with noses. Bless your hearts. The oil sounds terrible, and so does the bead. I’m always worried about Kane swallowing something or sticking something up his nose. Also, I love your new haircut!
