Cat in the Hat family-Halloween 2015

November 4, 2015

Happy Wednesday! As promised yesterday I am bringing you our families chosen Halloween costume theme and that was “Cat in the Hat.” We planned our theme a year ago, however the costumes came together last minute (as always).

You will see above that I was the mom (who you never see, except for her foot and finger), Nevaeh was the “Girl” Xander the “Boy”, my hubby was the “Cat” and my twins were “Thing 1 and Thing 2.” I thought it would be neat to tell you how we came up with some of the costumes below.

My three year old Xander was our “Boy” from the book. (Nevaeh was our little “Girl” but I didn’t include a picture of her alone because I only had photos of her with friends and do not want to include other children on the blog without permission. You can see Nevaeh in the red dress in the above first photo).

Frank, was our fish. We tied a fish to the back of his back and attached to harness, however the fish didn’t stay on long.

For our twins, we already had a “Thing 1” tee. For Max, (our Thing 2) I had to get creative. I went to Wal-mart for the shirt, white felt and black paint markers and created his “Thing 2” shirt. I drew out the “Thing 2” on the felt and safety pinned the felt to the t-shirt and he was good to go. For their hair we used blue hair spray and Halloween make up for their faces. I used other red clothing from their drawers.

This was my husbands first Halloween with us in a few years so he was more than thrilled to be away from work and participate in trick-or-treating as the “Cat in the Hat.” For his costume he wore workout pants, work out Under Armor shirt and stuck a old “cloth diaper” with a safety pin to the front to represent the cat’s spot. For the tail he recycled a plastic water hose from our basement and used a white paint pen to add some white to the tip. For his face he went with a hat we got at our local Halloween store.

Overall, our kids enjoyed their trick-or-treating. The actual trick-or-treating wasn’t long as the babies didn’t nap or nap well at all that day so they started dragging. Once we got back, the kids had a bath and I played Hocus Pocus for them til they fell asleep.

It was such a fun Halloween, I hope you enjoyed these photos?

What were you for Halloween?

Adorable costumes!! I love how you even included your dog. It’s so nice to see families dressing up together. My sister is a teacher and one of her students was a hot dog and the kids parents were ketchup and mustard.
