Back to Basics & Burnout

November 16, 2015

Lately I have found myself drawn to more comfortable pieces in my wardrobe such as leggings, tees and flats. With most of my days spent at the grocery store, library, park or outside with my kids it is important for me to go back to the basics (tee and leggings) and call it a day. While wearing fancy felt hats and fun boots with nice outfits are great, as a mom of four these aren’t practical in my day-to-day activities with them. So today I bring you a more laid back look. I added some leopard pops to spice up the white and black so it doesn’t look so uniformed.

It is no secret that I LOVE blogging. I love the friendships I have made, the collaborations with other bloggers and brands, the chance to shine and be creative; however the past few weeks I have been burned out.

Matthew 11: 28 “ “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

This past weekend I finally went into a “rethink blogging mode.” Now this doesn’t mean I am giving it up, but for goodness sakes I blogged everyday last week and normally blog 3-4 times a week, and blogging hours a week is getting shorter and shorter it seems. It also makes me sad that I am not as committed to reading and commenting on the blogs I used to read and be inspired by daily as during the day I use this time to be with my kids, so following and meeting new bloggers has been put on the back burner as well.

My husband works all night long (while we are sleeping) and then sleeps part of the day. He is such a good husband and father to manage to squeeze in a few hours with us a night before a new work day (night) starts.  Because of this he is tired most of the time, and any help he can offer as my photographer has been almost zapped.

I talked with him Sunday and told him I think I need a few weeks to recharge and post very little on this space. He seemed sad by my decision as he knows my passion for it, but there are a list of things to get done that I want to accomplish that I can’t while being with my kids all day and blogging almost full time.

I will still post, but for a few weeks it will be less than before and with the holidays coming upon us I know I need this extra time to be with my family, extended family and get loads of things done. I hope you understand.

What tips do you have for blogger burnout?

I will continue to read and catch up to your blogs. I hope you will join me tomorrow for another “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” link up, come on by and link up your fashion, DIY, recipe or other inspirational posts.

Also come back next Monday as some blogging friends and I show you how we spent a budgeted amount at Target.

Thanks again, you all are amazing and I thank you for your support of this blog.

I have been feeling the burnout, too… BUT, I am planning on not blogging as much during Thanksgiving week and the two weeks my kids will be out for Christmas, so I think that is the recharge I need! I am REALLY behind on blogging right now and I hate that stress. I feel like I need to just start over this week. I have been loving leggings lately, too and I only have ONE pair! I need to get a few more pairs. They are just so comfy.

Some times a basic look is best! I think its best to take a step back. I took a week and half of everything (blogs, social media, etc.) and just kind of reset everything. Completely stepping away for awhile totally helped me fall in love with it again!

Love your leopard picks…they are amazing!

cute bag! I totallllly feel you about blogger burn out. I actually just queued a post about it on my blog-set to go live sometime next week. I feel the same as you; it’s hard work to keep up blogging and sometimes it’s overwhelming to keep up with reading other blogs on top of that. I feel like blogging is getting too serious for me. Either that or I’m getting less serious about blogging and trying my best to enjoy life. Don’t stress about the blog, it shouldn’t be your main life focus over the real world!

I most definitely understand and feel your burn out. In the last 4 years I have blogged pretty much full time, this year I have definitely blogged the least and taken a few breaks too. Our lives and our families come first. So excited to see what you got from Target.

This basic outfit is so cute with the pops of leopard. In love with that purse.

I simply cannot imagine posting every day! Three times a week already almost does me in. I grabbed a basic black and grey tee to replace some older ones recently and they have gotten a ton of wear! You cannot beat good basics.

I go through burn outs every so often. The first time was when I was blogging daily. It was exhausting and almost impossible to keep up! Erica and I decided then to scale back to two posts a week. I still spend nearly every day doing something blog related, because let’s be honest, there is a lot to do beyond just creating a post. But, a lighter post schedule gives Erica and I more time to connect with other bloggers and work on other projects! Blogging is tough while juggling kids, I know that for sure and you have four, you are impressive!

Sometimes a basic look with a fun accessory is all you need to throw together the perfect look. Simple doesn’t have to mean boring! You proved that with this look. Love the print purse and shoe. So cute!

I have taken MANY breaks over the time that I’ve been blogging. Like you, it’s something I enjoy. BUT, when it starts to become unenjoyable for any reason…it’s time for a break. Sometimes that means less posts, sometimes that means no post for X amount of time. Sometimes you need to step back from it, spend more time with family, or even work on yourself. That’s totally okay!! Those who truly enjoy your blog and connecting with you will still be here when you get back! So take the time you need, whether that’s less posting or a posting fast.

I’m totally with you on feeling a little out of it with blogging. I want to enjoy time with my kiddos. Bless you for being a SAHM and having a hubby working nights! That has to be so exhausting. You keep up with it all well. Enjoy some breathing room the next few weeks or for as long as you need it!

I love this outfit! I completely understand what you’re going through. You go on ahead and take a break, girl. Do what you gotta do!

Love the touches of leopard in the look!!
Good for you for taking a needed break! Sometimes taking action with what you’ve been feeling is hard. Hopefully you enjoy the holidays with your family and come back recharged!!!

Well done for recognising when you need a break from blogging and doing something about it rather than just demanding more and more of yourself and ending up totally stressed!

Get refreshed, do what you have to, and I for one will definitely be here when you return!

This is totally my kind of weekend outfit! I never feel like getting dressed so I live in tees and leggings!

Aw i am SO sorry to hear you are feeling burned out! Just know that we have ALL been there and sometimes you just need to step back from the world of blogging and social media and get some rest. I definitely found (when I went through this feeling a few months back) that taking time to actually read the blogs you used to read really helps get you inspired again and reminds you why you started blogging in the first place. Another thing that can help is to get ‘guest posters!” have 3-4 people ( as much as you usually post for a week) take over your blog and do the post. This is such a mutually beneficial blogging situation – you get a whole week break AND they get to reach out to a new audience (yours)

Love those leggings. And I’ve definitely taken off some time from blogging before. Think it’s always smart to take time to reflect and decide what it is that really makes you happy. x

I think it’s normal to get burned out…when I’m facing burn out but know I’m still passionate for it, I think it’s a sign of necessary changes to keep myself and readers interested and excited! I revamp my schedule or my posts.

You look fantastic above by the way!

I feel ya, it can be hard to keep up with blogging at times when life seems to get in the way. It can be very unmotivating. I only post one or two times a week and I think that helps.

  • Carrie November 17, 2015 at 9:27 pm

So glad you posted this, Rachel. I am thinking/feeling along the same lines with you. I needed to read this. Thank you!!

You’re so cute! I love the photos in this post …and all of your photos. And girl, I feel ya on the burnout. Blogging is serious and can really wear you out. It’s hard to keep up with it along with everything else in life. You do what feels best for you:)

We all get blogging burnout girl. I have been struggling for months. I have found if I set a schedule and really use my planner and follow my schedule it is much easier. I get more done and I don’t feel as overwhelmed. I hope you get out of the rut soon. xo~ Megan The Fashionista Momma
