How I Style It: Disney Character Inspiration

October 5, 2016

Welcome to How I Style It. This is a themed monthly blog hop that a few other bloggers and I have put together to show you how we style different outfits for different themes. My blogging buddies and I were inspired by the upcoming Halloween holiday and Disney, so today’s theme is Disney Character inspiration.I bet you cant guess who I am? Hints: Princess, anchor earrings, shell bracelet.

If you guessed Ariel, then you are correct. Growing up I was fascinated by mermaids. I loved watching the Disney version of “The Little Mermaid.” Something about Ariel’s rebellious, curious teenage life intrigued me. The romance with her and Eric is also magical fantasy in itself. For this themed collaboration I knew I wanted to draw inspiration from Ariel and her mermaid companions.

My husband and I went out Friday night last week for a date night and so this made for the perfect opportunity to get dolled up in this mint dress (inspired by the ocean), sea inspired accessories and go out and about. In truthfulness I was not thrilled with this outfit after wearing it. I even had a hard time getting motivated to do photos in it. I think it was the idea that I didn’t have lighter blue jeans or white leggings or something different to wear underneath this tunic. Somehow the grey leggings are just a put off for me and don’t add to the outfit well. What would you have added to the bottom?

Now on to the details about our date night, the good and the not so good. For the good I enjoyed getting my first pumpkin spice latte of the season (in a Venti size thank you very much) and hitting up Pokestops and creatures on our walk downtown. The bad includes my mind wandering elsewhere and I was stressed out. I allowed outside forces come into the date night when I should have just let things go and put up boundaries. My husband was trying to be supportive but at one moment I wanted to shut him and the world off and wanted to cry at my own mistakes. I didn’t though and pressed on, considering what I had done a lesson learned and to have a firmer or thicker skin next time. It’s kind of complicated but nothing horrible, just stressful to deal with.

End of rant.

What a great theme this month, so fun and creative. Ariel is adorable. The last few months Vivi has been fascinated and loves mermaids. I do like how this outfit came out but I would have preferred it with white or ivory leggings, do you have those? You can always try your white skinny jeans underneath. I also think a navy legging or skinny pant would work. =)

What a cute idea to draw outfit inspiration from a princess. At first glance, I guessed Jasmine bc of the color, but after reading your post, I totally get the Ariel theme

You look fab! I love the mint dress and the hem on the dress is so great! Sometimes real life comes into what we want to be a perfect evening. That’s honestly life though….it’s nice to hear someone else who is honest and goes through the same thing!

I loved so many Disney movies growing up, but The Little Mermaid was hands down my favorite. I love that mint dress too. I hate it when my mind is distracted and I can’t just enjoy a “night off” with my husband… but that’s life sometimes. I hope the next one goes better!
