An ode to a bad week

March 2, 2015

I do believe this is the first post in awhile where I am focusing on the content and my life and feelings over providing pictures first then talking about the “outfit” or “good stuff” (I will get to that shortly) but first off I just want to admit that last week was just so emotional. Do you ever have weeks where there are good things but the smallest little bad stuff just creep in and consume your thoughts or actions and the good is no longer appeasing or a thought? That was my week last week and it was not fun.

I have been in prayer about it but I know a lot of what the root issue is and that is I feel like a failure. I have tears bunching up in the corners of my eyes as I type this. See about 4 years ago I lost my teaching job around this time and so I am having nightmares and just thoughts of feeling like I failed and it is causing me to carry it on into my parenting and daily life. I even had a mini panic attack thinking about it the other day where I blanked out and couldn’t let it go and my breathing changed. Then to make matters worse I just felt frustrated with blogging because I was comparing myself to other bloggers so I felt like a failure with my posts last week. Did I mention I felt like a failure in my daily life? This has all been in with comparing myself to parenting, in friendships, and in my walk with God. (plus it had been that time of the month so I was already an emotional rollercoaster).

By Friday my bad week ended on a good note though (Thank God)!

There is just a jumbo amount of things I could rant and vent on right now that I have been feeling but sometimes there isn’t even enough words to utter these out, but instead I have had to step back, pray and learn to just give some time to meditate on God’s word and truth. I will leave the conclusion to my bad week and heart issue with these scriptures and perhaps it will reach to some of you who might be hurting or feeling some failure in your life as it has helped me:

Jeremiah 17:14- “Heal me, O Lord and I will be healed; save me and I will be saved, for you are the one I praise.”

Psalm 147:3- “He heals the brokenhearted and binds their wounds.

How are you really feeling lately? Even if you don’t believe in God how are you feeling?  How can we be in prayer for each other?

Now on to the outfit (taken in horrible bright light outside, sorry but I hated to ask the hubby to do it while we were running errands that day, as he was having a horrible day that day as well).

Since this was such a horrible day and time to shoot pictures I didn’t get very many nice ones, so I am sorry for that. I did however want to point out my new sweater cardigan worn here from The Mint Julep boutique that I got from winning a  giveaway last year from Jessica of blessherheartyall.com blog (thanks J)! I have worn this cardigan like two times a week since getting it and it goes with everything.  I have been dreaming since the late fall to have an oversized sweater/sweater cardigan so I was glad when this one was on sale at The Mint Julep boutique so I could snatch it up. This is such a cozy one too!

Thanks for reading today! I hope you can join me tomorrow for another “Bloggers Who Have Inspired Me” link up as I will feature my favorite 5 from last Tuesday.

It can be so easy to get consumed by the bad and not be able to focus on the good! Keep praying girl, God will carry you through. It’s so hard to realise sometimes but He never puts anything in our paths that we can’t get through with His help!
Despite the “bad” pics, I really love that cardigan and blanket scarf on you! Keep your chin up!

I hope your post today helped you. Do not worry about what you eat or drink or what your wear. Look how God provides for the birds of the sky and the flowers on the earth. How much more then does he care for you!!!!! Keep doing your thing!

Oh my gosh girl I have been there. I am going to keep you in my thoughts!!

  • Maria March 2, 2015 at 6:14 pm

I’ve definitely been there lately too and it is so easy to get consumed in negativity and let it overwhelm you. I agree, though, it is amazing what prayer and scripture reading can do to help! I’ll be praying that you have a better week 🙂

Aww. I feel for you, bad weeks (and it usually is an entire week, not just a day!) are rough. I actually had a bad few weeks when my kids were sick and their asthma scares me and sometimes I get so stressed out about it I can’t even sleep… or I get sick to my stomach. Or just hearing another kid cough gets my nerves going. Thankfully, they are doing better now and I’m feeling better, too! I hope this week is a better one for you. I wouldn’t beat yourself up about the teaching job, it has been a YEAR and you are an amazing mother from what I read and see! Also, I compare myself to other bloggers sometimes, too (who doesn’t) and its NEVER good. So, try and stay away from that however you can. 🙂 Hugs!!

I am so sorry you had a rough week! Being in the blogging world it is so hard not to compare yourself! I actually just read a quote this morning that I really love that said, “it doesn’t matter what others are doing it matters what you are doing” which I thought was a good eye opener! especially when it comes to blogging! You look adorable and I hope this week gets much better for you!

We all have those days, weeks, and seasons of life. Don’t let the enemy beat you up. Stay focused on the truths of God’s Word. You are loved. You are acceptable. You are worthy. You are precious in His sight. He has a plan and purpose for your life. It is all good and wonderful, and your future is bright.

Dear Rachel – I understand your feelings, and I hope you get better. Let me tell you that you are so BLESSED with a beautiful family and your kids are so adorable. When I feel that way I always remind myself that it’s just a blog – family is everything. Thank you so much for the scriptures – I am not having the best time either, and the only way to comfort my heart is though god. In another note, that sweater looks so cozy and the color is so versatile and perfect for a casual date. You look so pretty!

Yes, I can very much relate to this. I could have pretty much written the exact same thing. I’m sorry you’ve been going through a difficult time, but it’s good that you’re turning a corner. One of my favorite quotes is “comparison is the thief of joy”, I try very hard to keep.that in mind when I get into one of those modes where I notice that I’m starting to feel bad and that it’s due to my comparing myself to others.

I really love your outfit, such a cute cardigan and scarf combo.

I am so sorry you are struggling with all of this and I commend you for writing about it on your blog. So, many of us bloggers want our lives to look picture perfect and it really isn’t that way. We can’t compare ourselves to what other people portray as their lives on the internet. You are awesome and always remember that. xo ~ Megan

I admire your courage to open up about how you have been feeling of late. I am sorry to hear you have been struggling and pray things turn the corner for you very soon, sweet girl. You are always such a wonderful encourager to others and it is noticed and appreciated. You look wonderful – I seriously love your cardigan and scarf! Such a great combination all around!

I’ve considered blogging about some very similar feelings that I’ve had lately and just didn’t know how to say it. Just know that you are awesome and what may have happened does not define who you are and is coming to you, in the future. You’ve accomplished more than what many others ever will, already. Things will turn around soon. I feel like this dreary, grey weather is keeping me in more of a grumpy mood than need-be. Maybe the sun will help turn it all around soon, lol.

    Love, Missy

Rachel thank you for linking up and for sharing what you are going through. You absolutely are good enough because you are perfectly you 🙂 And the biggest blogger promise that we have to make to ourselves it to never, ever, compare ourselves to another blogger! We are all so unique and different of all ages, shapes, and styles, it’s beautiful 🙂 Focus on loving and accepting yourself and your inspiration will flow. When I am going through something hard in my life I usually turn it into a post or a positive quote. It helps me feel better, and makes me feel good that my words may help someone else XOXO

I have those days, weeks, hours too dear. I feel like a failure, like everyone is judging me, like I can’t do the simplest thing right, and where an anxiety attack is just around the corner. I am thinking of you and praying for you. Just know that you are not alone and He will take care of you. xoxo
