2 Ways to Style a Button-up Shirt Dress for warm weather & link up

March 15, 2016

I like to branch out from the norm and try new things on occasion so when I found this button up shirt dress on NewChic I knew I couldn’t pass it up. I worried this button up top would be too masculine and hard to style but when it came it turned out being my new wardrobe staple and surprisingly it is very versatile.  This can be styled many different ways but today I wanted to share with you 2 ways to Style a button up shirt dress for warm weather.

Style 1: As a shirt dress with a scarf

This shirt dress can look intimidating and masculine with its boxy frame at the top and back so a fun scarf tones down the boxy effect giving more feminine touches. I choose to also add some pops of colors to add more interest and fun. *I wore a pair of shorts underneath this just in case but you don’t have too.

Style 2: Layered over shorts and tee

Adding a button up shirt dress (unbuttoned) is perfect for layering on those breezy days or chilly mornings or evenings we all know spring and summer weather often has. I love this shirt as an extra cover up and wore it casually over shorts and a tee at one family outing recently.

Overall I feel very confident in this shirt dress. The sleeves can be rolled up (as in this post) or left down.  What’s more the color and feel of it is similar to chambray which is a plus in my wardrobe.

How do you style a shirt dress or button up shirt dress? How will you style one for warm weather?

I love this unexpected color combo and outfit from Jessica, so much so that I would love to combine similar colors or at least dare to try colorful tights myself sometime.

I loved how Sarah styled a pencil skirt two ways  from Sweetly Made by MJ by an and like Jessica above one of them was unexpected but a great pull off. It just goes to show a pencil skirt isn’t only limited to work or office wear. See what I mean here.
